The island portfolio
An explorable 3D world with a direct route to every project and article.
I wanted my site to be somewhere people could explore, with a clear route to the work and writing they came for. Each island gives a subject its own setting. Every project and article also has a URL you can open and share directly.
The decision
A visitor looking around has different needs from someone following a link to an article. The site supports both. You can travel through the world or open the piece you want without navigating the islands first.
What that means for a visitor
Projects and articles open inside the world. A reading view removes the 3D scene, and reduced motion lets you skip the camera travel. If the scene cannot load, the content remains available.
Keeping the content usable
My published articles are archived here so they remain available if their original host changes. The podcast includes chapter links, so you can jump to the part of the conversation that interests you.
Testing the beta
The site is in internal beta. I'm testing whether people can find what they need, read comfortably and move between the world and the content on different devices. It is built with Next.js, React Three Fiber and Three.js, with island assets made in Blender.
